It has been asked of us often that we consider the Big and Tall hunter when we design our next layout boat. Although our MLBII and our Zach Taylor Sneakbox Wigeon can fill the bill, we set out to build a true Lake Erie Style layout boat that could handle the larger hunter.
We started designing the boat, based from some of the measurements of our MLB II two man boat. We wanted extra leg, thigh, and foot room. We have achieved that by raising the deck 2" near the foot, and dropping the box an additional 1/2". Also, we lengthened our box by 28", from the seated hunter's waist to his/her toes. We virtually split the boat down the middle, widening it by 10".
The dimensions of the MLB Super Mag are as follows;
Overall length: 11' 0"
Width at beam: 60"
Height above water: 9 3/4"
Depth below water: 4 1/2”
Weight of boat in fiberglass: 145 lbs.
Weight in Kevlar: 95 lbs.
USCG rated capacities:
1 person: 416#
Persons & gear: 462#
In addition, even after the USCG added 1,539# of certified weight steel, we still had 1" of freeboard, with our shield collapsed. This gives our Super Mag the highest rating for a single man layout boat.
This boat is not rated for propulsion by motor.
